As a skin & beauty formulator and skincare enthusiast, I wanted to share with you my TOP 10 list of my all time favorite skin-loving, GO-TO ingredients that allows me to create and supply the BEST cosmetic products for you every time!

There are thousands, if not millions of ingredients out there today for skincare formulations and skin health, and there are more that are still being studied and developed. As a formulator that is creating and supplying products that people will be applying to their skin, it is very important that we do our very best to understand the trends, the research and the pros & cons of every ingredient that we put in our products and that we recommend to customers based on their skin-type.

“Your skin is the largest organ of your body, It is the first thing most people see, it interacts with everyday life. It is a mirror of your overall health. It is very vital that we take proper care of this organ, because it will be representing us for the rest of our lives.”

This article is about sharing with you my GO-TO ingredients and why. At the end, you may be wondering why I did not include some ingredients that are traditionally seen as . I have absolutely nothing against them, I however want us to broaden our minds and realize that there are other more effective ingredients out there that you can explore for yourself. Without further ado, let's get into it.

1. Shea Butter

Shea Butter, also known as by it's INCI name, Butyrospermum Parkii, Is like that reliable best friend that you can depend on to get you right. I personally love formulating with Shea Butter because I know exactly the quality I am going to get in the end. It is an excellent emollient and emulsifier, it protects against skin dryness and accelerates healing of superficial wounds and irritations. It also has a slight photo-protective action and is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and Vitamin E.

You can find Shea Butter in these Skin Care products: Paradise Silk Body Moisturizer, Lovedaze Body Cream, Serene Calming Body Butter, Serene Body Scrub, and our Lip Rescue Lip Balm Collection.

2. Kakui Nut Oil

Kukui nut oil can leave even the driest, dullest, aging skin looking healthy and radiant.

This ingredient is hands down the best premium oil for persons experiencing skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and sensitivity. While it is not a cure for these skin conditions, kukui nut oil is great for reducing inflammation and preventing discomfort and itchiness that these conditions may cause. It you have scaly patches, this would help soothe and smooth the skin out over time. Other benefits if this amazing ingredient is Kukui nut oil is easily absorbed by the deepest layers of the skin, and forms a protective barrier on the skin that protects against the sun and environmental damage. This oil is able to penetrate the skin easily and leaves the skin feeling silky and smooth without leaving a greasy feeling on the skin. Kakui Nut oil contains vitamins A, C, and E, which are antioxidants known to protect the skin and prevent free-radical damage to the skin cells.

You can find this ingredient in our Serene Body Butter, Serene Body Scrub, Sun Drops Radiant Body Oil and Lip Rescue Lip Balm Collection.

3. Jojoba Oil

The Golden Oil (actually its a liquid wax). Jojoba oil has to been in all my hand-made formulations simply because it gives a healthy looking complexion to the skin. Jojoba oil has a variety of anti-inflammatory and healing properties that allows it to be effective in treating skin conditions like acne, eczema, chaffing and psoriasis. It aids in reducing redness caused by drying, ease the effects of eczema and rosacea, and keep skin calm and comfortable. The Vitamin E and B-complex vitamins in the Jojoba Oil help in skin repair and damage control.

You can find this ingredient in our Lovedaze Body Collection, Paradise Silk Body Collection, Sun Drops Radiant Body Oil.

4. Niacinamide

If you have not yet heard about this ingredient, you are probably living under a rock. This ingredient has gotten so huge since the past years, it's the number one ingredient that every skincare line ensures they have in their products, especially celebrity skin care lines. To be honest, it is worth the hype. We supply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% to our customers, because I love the brand, the formulation and because it for me, is the OG niacinamide product.

Niacinamide aka Vitamin B3, is a well-studied, multi-faceted active ingredient that is renowned for its multiple benefits on the skin. It contributes to balancing visible sebum activity and supporting the production of components that play a central role in the structural and functional integrity of the skin.

You can shop Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% from our online store.

5. Calendula Butter

Calendula, commonly known as Marigold, is a plant that was historically referred to as “nature’s first aid” and is known for its traditional uses in treating and dressing minor skin irritations such as cuts and burns. Calendula Butter is a perfect addition to a variety of skin care formulations meant for dry and weathered skin. It can be added to creams and lotions to make them ultra-rich and increase their ability to hydrate the skin. The creamy texture of Calendula Butter exhibits excellent spreadability, making it ideal as a massage butter or moisturizing body butter for mature skin.

6. Beeswax

Beeswax acts as a protective, breathable layer on the skin's surface, helping to lock in moisture for soft, supple, hydrated skin. Formulating my skincare products with Beeswax helps to keep skin in its natural balance for a healthy, radiant complexion, while allowing my body butters to withstand hot outdoor temperatures without melting.

You can find this ingredient in all our products except the Sun Drops Radiant Body Oil, Lip scrubs and body scrubs.

7. Coco Caprylate/Caprate

made by combining esters from coconut-derived fatty alcohol (the non-drying kind) with caprylic and capric acids, also from coconut.

The benefits of using this ingredient presents a high level of biocompatibility with skin and therefore has the ability to penetrate deep and help skin to repair itself. It acts as an emollient and provides skin with incredible softness.

This ingredient is found in our Serena Body Butters.

8. Argan Oil

Argan oil is a non-fragrant plant oil expressed from the kernels of Argan trees. This oil contains several beneficial lipids and fatty acids for skin, including oleic acid, palmitic acid, and, especially, linoleic acid. It is also a good source of antioxidant vitamin E (tocopherol) and, like several other plant oils, a good source of other antioxidant compounds. Argan oil is not too heavy and not too light—making it perfect to use on all skin types. It can be used by itself and work to lightly moisturize your skin, soften dry patches, and even reduce acne.

This ingredient can be found in our Paradise Silk Collection, Lovedaze Collection and Serene Collection.

9. Guava Extract

Guava aka by it's INCI name Psidium Guajava is revered for both its vitamin content and its ability to slow the signs of aging. This is because Guava is very rich in Vitamin A, B and C, and it helps prevent day to day wear and tear of the skin. It can also be added to hair care products as a natural source of fiber. What's more, guava leaf extract may even help treat acne when applied directly to your skin.

This ingredient is found in our Guava + Lemon Soap Bars and Paradise Silk Collection.

10. Retinoids

If you ask me about what is one product that I would recommend for your skin, it would be the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. Deciem says that "The “younger” sibling, Granactive Retinoid, is a much newer next-generation advanced retinoid active complex which has been shown to target multiple signs of aging, offering the same long-term benefits as retinol, without any of the drawbacks often associated with retinol use. This technology cannot be compared directly with Retinol itself in terms of concentration because they include a different Retinoid molecule, in a similar way that Retinol cannot be compared with Retinoic Acid in terms of concentration. ⁣⁣"

Based on my experience with this wonder product, and also my customers experience, it literally transforms your skin to look smooth, radiant and healthy. The bonus of it all, it is so gentle on the skin, little to absolutely NO irritation.

You can shop Granactive Retinoids 2% and 5% from our online store.
